Leads at the last YC Rehearsal

I have to say Leads, once we lock that sound in and really unify our sound, we can slay any other lead section in the country, bar none. Please be practising THE EXACT type of voice, formation of vowels, use of singable consonants(m's, n's ng's)etc, that Tim uses on our teach tapes. It is a phenomenal teaching facility that we have and if we can learn to use it, not neccessarily harder but SMARTER, then the whole chorus will benefit from this. Also be reminded of the 'Americanised' vowels/sounds we were making, the Tallness of the sound we created and don't change that for anyone. It will give us an edge that NO other chorus has in this country, and there are only a handful who have really grasped it worldwide......so well done all of you and keep up the good work.C ya April 9th!!!!!

Yes, Yes, Yes Tim. Listen to him carefully lads, he really knows his onions. If there's something he say's that you don't quite understand, ask him, either from the risers or in the break, or through this site. Or ask myself ofcourse. Come on then, How you doing with the repertoire? Any tricky spots? range, timing, vowels, breathing? break it down for me. 8)

I've got one Big one for ya........lay off the fags. :) No seriously, there are lots of techniques you can use to increase usage of your overall lung capacity. Hissing like a snake for a set length of time is probably the best one......the order is Exhale, Inhale,Hiss, Suspend. eg Get rid of all your air first, take a deep breath and hiss to the count of, say 10. Be sure to have pressure behind the hiss, not just a weak one, but so you are using the air to push the hiss through your lips. Reach 10 then wait a second before you take another breath. NB...This exercise will only work if you: 1 Have the pressure behind the hiss. 2 Make sure you have expelled ALL the air by your end count,(and not get to 8 and still have half a tank left). The idea is to sustain and manage your breath more accurately. 3 Once you've mastered it to 10 then move up in 5's or 10's as high as you can, 50 is normally a reasonable level to sustain the hiss to. And finally, 4 As with everything WE do , this has to become a part of your everyday life to work to its best degree. If you practise everyday I promise you will reap massive rewards at the end of it.Depends how much you want it!!! Hope this helps Rich,Dunc and anyone else that can use this exercise!!!

Probably the biggest thing for me (apart from breath, hehe) is consistency. I find that on some occasions its really easy for me to reach the higher notes without slipping into falsetto, other times, I just can't manage it at all, and my voice cracks or becomes very feeble. Sometimes I lose the top end midway through a rehearsal session, which makes me wonder if I'm over-singing. Are there any particular signs I should be looking out for? Anything I could try to keep those top notes?
